A Vision for a Greener Detroit!
Our focus at The Greening of Detroit is to enhance the quality of life for Detroiters by planting trees, providing job training and involving our youth in the education of the natural environment. We involve Detroiters in the process through community engagement, green spaces, education and jobs.

Our Mission
Inspiring sustainable growth of a healthy urban community through trees, green spaces, healthy living, education, training and job opportunities.
We aspire to provide a greener tomorrow for our Detroit.
Get Involved
We cannot do it alone. Each year, we recruit between 500 and 3,000 volunteers to help us plant trees, clean up our garden and parks around the city, and work at our tree nursery.
There are plenty of opportunities to dig in the dirt, and make a positive difference in Detroit.
Become a Citizen Forester
The Greening has a group of highly trained volunteers that are responsible for leading groups on planting days. Citizen Foresters demonstrate best practices for planting a tree and are quality control supervisors and motivational leaders during our tree planting events in the spring and fall.
Detroit Conservation Corps
We offer 8 week long adult workforce training programs that provide DCC members an opportunity to acquire job skills in tree artisan and landscaping.
Cohort members receive accredited landscape training, financial coaching, job placement services, tutoring and additional support including meals, uniforms, and transportation.
Throughout the year, The Greening of Detroit holds job fairs, connects with potential employers, holds legal clinics and works to support our graduating members as they move forward with their lives.
Green Corps
If you are enrolled in high school and have a “C” average in all your classes, we are looking for you!
Green Corps is an 8-week summer youth employment program designed for high school students between the ages of 14-18. Green Corps members maintain hundreds of trees and green spaces all around Metro Detroit. While working, we give you an opportunity for you into the best individual you can be by providing work readiness training, financial literacy, SAT prep, College visits, etc.
Our application will be available in April 2020 for the 2020 summer session. You must go through the application and interview process.
Events
If you are interested in volunteering at our tree plantings, we post these dates on our events page.
We also have outdoor education classes during the spring and summer at Lafayette Greens.
