Have you ever wondered what sort of pollution ends up in our local rivers? Did you know the Rouge River flows into the Detroit River, and the Detroit River provides the drinking water for our city?

Come join us at the pavilion near the Rainbow Bridge in Eliza Howell Park on Wednesday Sept. 4th from 6-8p for a visual and educational experience where we learn about types and sources of pollution in our local waters, as well as what each of us can do to help make our drinking water sources cleaner and healthier.

We’ll have live music by the Allen Dennard Jazz Trio from 6-7p

Dr. Tracie Baker, professor at Wayne State University and director of the Baker WATER Lab will be speaking at 7p about different types of pollution found in Detroit’s waterways.

And at 7:30p we’ll make our way over to the Rainbow Bridge for a visual representation of pollutants entering the Rouge River. Different colored floating lanterns representing different types of pollutants will be released into the river, where they will flow under the Rainbow Bridge. Unlike the pollutants that actually enter the river, the lanterns will be removed after the event.
