Green Infrastructure

The Greening of Detroit continues to build on the foundation of its green infrastructure program, focusing on serving and empowering Detroit communities in the development of healthy green and productive landscapes. This work is intentional and community oriented. It combines information, education and community outreach to support the installation and maintenance of ecological landscapes.

Walter Meyers Nursery

We have taken some big steps over the past 2 years on the long planned renovation of the Walter I Meyers Nursery, a 72 acre tree nursery located in Rouge Park. Throughout spring 2018 we planted several thousand tree saplings. The Greening will be installing these trees in parks and public spaces in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland park in future years.

Stormwater Management

The Greening of Detroit actively supports stormwater management and workforce development through the implementation, maintenance, and on-the-job training of native plants.

The Greening of Detroit experts also participate in the Land+Water WORKS program, a coalition of 10 independent non-profits working together to provide Detroit residents with the resources needed to become better stewards of our environment.

The Greening of Detroit serves as curriculum development co-leader, to create educational resources and opportunities about water stewardship, conservation, and key concepts behind the drainage charge program in the City of Detroit.
